About Datalance

Have been working in IT for over 25 years and have a breadth of experience in many industries and work areas:

• Retail, Finance, Manufacturing, Logistics and Public Sector.
• Business analyst, Project and Programme manager, Account manager, Bid manager, Consultant and Company Director.

With both business and IT experience I provide the communication channel between the two.

Now working as an independent consultant with a number of different clients, the largest of whom have been:

• Salmon - an excellent software company specialising in Retail and Insurance systems; I have helped Salmon with internal systems and procedures, and worked for them as a consultant with some of the biggest names on the High Street.
• Business Link - over a period of a few years offering consultancy on behalf of Business Link as a UK Online for Business advisor, I spoke to many hundreds of small businesses in every conceivable market, offering advice on how to use the internet and helping them to apply for Government grants.

Membership-online - A friend and I have designed and built Membership-online (thanks to Oakleaf for their help as well), which now provides a membership database for a growing number of clubs and small businesses far and wide. It's surprised even us that we have clubs in South Africa and Australia using the system. That's the internet for you.

In addition to these I have a number of regular clients to whom I provide assistance as what you might call a 'part-time IT Manager', keeping their systems up to date and offering advice about solutions that might help them.

For those interested in academics I am a graduate in a now-irrelevant (to me I hasten to add) subject, and at some point or another have taken courses in accounting, management studies, analysis and design, ISO 9000 quality auditor and the IoD's company direction; the point being, I suppose, that I have business knowledge as well as IT expertise.

My time is flexible, which is hopefully helpful to you - current engagements vary from a few days every 6 months, 1 day per week, or perhaps 10 days at a time, so I can usually fit in with your needs.

Based in Northampton, I am happy to provide assistance anywhere between London and Birmingham - beyond that probably wouldn't be cost effective for either of us, but feel free to call if you just need assistance over the phone or by remote PC management.
